Night of the living Blogs Pt6

And again the bug conquers water. This picture I snagged from yet another Swedish blog, sort of anyway. It's part of this guys website, where he uploads nice pictures every once in a while, with a few lines describing it. Well if that ain't what blogs are all about. Go see for yourself !

Ter land, ter zee en in de lucht

While we're on the touchy subject of mixing Volkswagens with water, I thouhgt I'd share this nice picture of a flooding in Sweden. One can only guess, but the heavy pick-up truck looks stranded with the driver out in the cold, boots filled with water. But look at that panelvan go, deliveries will have been on time, no matter what.

Amsterdamned

While surfing the net on the lookout for some people to help the Irish out in Amsterdam, I stumbled upon this vintage shot of the canals. This would be back in 56, where the firemen are more than busy pushing and pulling a drawned Bug. I'm not sure what they plan to do when they beach it, because a rope and a stick, I don't know, might be time to get out the crane.

This is probably the interior shot of the same car. Typical Dutch use of the budvase, it might explain how it ended up in the canal in the first place.

Midnattssolsrallyt

Only two days ago a rally for vintage cars up to and included 1975 started of in the south of Sweden, in Hörby. From there they drive towards the Midsummersun in Ostersund, halfway up Sweden and back again. The finnish is planned on July first.

Of course there's a lot of Volvo's and Saabs competing and an awfull lot of Porches , old and even older. And from what pictures I have seen only two VW and they didn't even make the ranking. The Red German Notchback and then this happy Swede driving his Black Ovali to smithereens.

One of the Porches, it looks A or even Pre-A to me but I guess some more educated Porsche-afficionados will step in to correct me if I'm wrong. What I do know for sure is that is Swedish, and it is about to get dirrrty.

Kiss me I'm Irish

Yesterday around noon, on my way home, I passed an Irish Westy parked alongside the road. Upon driving by I noticed the engine hatch was open, so I thought it spelled trouble. The guy and gal were very pleased as I stopped, and soon the problem was diagnosed, stuck starter engine. A quick phonecall to Guillermo's Aircooled Services for a hot tip and with a slight tap they were on their way with their tRusty baywindow, of to Amsterdam. To thank me, Mr. Fagan offered me some of Irelands finest, and though I don't drink it now serves as another Aircooled souvenir.

Next to it is another aircooled memorabilia from my last trip to Sweden, some sort of Svensk Cider, made out of Talkotte (pine cones).

Add some horses

I had to put this one up as it made me think of Herr Ghunters dad. Story goes he won a donkey on a local fancy fair, and to take the beast home he just put it in the backseat of his old Opel Kadett or some other unreal car. "Eplet faller ikke langt fra stammen..." I bet Herr Ghunter would be capable of the same sillyness.

Back to todays picture, what if they had called their horse Okrasa, would it than be an Old Speed powered bug? Because if so, Bitburg here I come

I bet she likes a Hot Rod too

Sweden, land of the long tall blondes prancing around in classic Bjorn Borg underwear, if they wear anything at all that is. I bet Fernando would be one happy punter living in Kiruna, taking daily sauna's under the midsummersun, whipping each other with fresh summer twigs to make the blood circulate faster after is has been slowed down by the steamy heat.

But back on topic, done with daydreaming. To be honest, I'm not too big a fan of the whole Volksrod-thing happening right now. Mind you, I love rods, but just give me a classic Deuce Coupe. But it has to be said that some of the inovators keep on pushing their limits, and some do build small wonders of automotive art, even when they start with an old oval. And you just can't stop loving the small and firm front and the round, juicy back. And we're thinking about the wheels, don't we Fernando.

If only You knew...

This is one of the vintage adds that were delivered to my door by the Swedish post just recently. I always thought Notches were cool, but the drivers... Well see for yourself.

Hit the Raffles again

And again I have found a way to throw away my hard earned cash. Yet another raffle, this time I will win this hardcore Dragracer built by Lo-Cash racing with the help of like every American in the Bussiness. They raced it for Pinks, with the intention to raffle both cars if they won. To bad, due to circumstances, they lost the battle, twice. But the competitor was so taken by their intentions, the raffle is still on. The complete story is on Project Pinks and I'll be at Western Union today to pay for my 6 stubs.
By the sway I snagged this picture from sLowFatSlug's blog, he didn't like the car as it ran with an elongated front end, but after this crash they redesigned the rollcage to run a shorter wheelbase, hence a new standard lenght fiberglass nosejob.

Ah, yet another great American on it's way to Good Ole Europe. Or like we like to say in Belgium : Verkoop de huid van de beer niet voor hij geschoten is !

Veteran Mopeder

As I have proven with the picture of the Hundkoja a few posts back (I just hope that the amount of daily visitors won't drop like it did when I showed you the Mini), Bubblas aren't all Sweden has to offer on motorized toys. The Swedes also own a plethora of vintage mopeds. Like this very nice Italian racing banana from the seventies. But my man from the land of small wonders, Peejke, tells me it is a bit overpriced a 2000 euro, especially if you've got to get it in Sverige.

But they also sell weirder stuff like this svensk flakmoped. A Monark from 53 for only 7000 SEK, ideal to roam the swapmeet in your search for that perfect set of 4,5 & Deep 6 Earlies.

Rarest of the Rare

Remember I mentioned the scarcity of Aircooled T3 Doka's. Well this weekend one was for sale in Budel, so much closer to home than f.i. Luleå. That's me in front, looking sad because I didn't have the guts to go ask the price. Or maybe because I had "hurt" my ankle to escape my dready dayjob, so painfull to prance around at the sunny fairgrounds.

Mantorp and back in 60 seconds

Thanks to Eric from Norrköping I have the inside scoop on Bugrun. It would off course have been so much more fun to be there in person, but money has to be made at home. If you look at the great line-ups and the clear blue northern sky, one could wonder why go to work at all.

One of the main attractions surely must have been this Dannenhauer and Stauss, a lovely coachbuild VW cabrio. If it was mine I would drop it like it's hot and run it on some fat and skinnie clad Fumagalis. They look like fuchs but aren't, the car could be mistaken for a Porsche but it isn't.

Some other vintage tin I'm interested in is this splitwindow with the funky box on the back. doubt if this is an original German accessory. But it looks as old as the car, so in my opinion it became original the day they fitted it on the rear. One question remains, what's it for.

And finally this car, which popped up troughout Erics pictures several times. I know he's looking for a nice late Cabbe, and this one was for sale. And I don't know, but although Eric likes the OG, I think this one has a natural Cal look over it. Might be the colour.
So Eric, If you like it and the price is right, don't hesitate, it's a CLASSic.

Thanks for the pictures !

Eighties Reffugee Pt5

I can't remember if I already posted pictures of this Hot Rod, as last year it was also for sale. But I guess no-one has the guts to prance around in this pimped out ride. Topchopped 4", suicide doors, shaved trim and a turboed engine. Bring the scalloped candy/pastel paintjob into the equasion and you get one hot mamma-jamma. The thing that really turns me down though is the homebuilt spoiler, that really destroys an otherwise great car.

Barndoorlyxis

And while we're talking about rarest of the rare, some nice shots out of the Swedish Forests. While we're happy with 70ties beetles turning up in some farmers field, the Swedes step up and present us yet another Barndoor. A nice chestnut over sealing wax red Lyxbuss, with that beautifull trim. For more pictures check Johans Gallery, but skip the Peugeot 206, for your own good state of mind.

But as is plain to see, this one met her destiny. Courage to the one embarking on the endeavour restoring this Fat chick.

And you'll never have the luxury of the T3, so why bother?

T3 Wet Dreams

Something else I'm mad about, and to which I always tend to turn back. The Ultimate VW bus, the Fattest Chick, the T3. And did you know they also had them aircooled. I do, because I'm the proud owner of a Windowed Bus.

But these puppies are the Summum in my opinion. Rarest of the rare, an aircooled doublecab. And just recently, two for sale in Sverige. The purple one seems a bit knackered, But the green one, only 160 Euros for the Kermit. Where's the trailer when you need one.

Snow Trac Forum

I just got spammed by the proud owner of a snowtrac. These Swedishbuilt caterpillars have their own worldwide forum. Check it out, only problem is you have to log in to see all off the pictures, but it's well worth the trouble if you're looking into buying one. Or if you're just plain mad about alternate Flat4 use, like me.

356 Sweet Dreams

Last I heard from Morten, this lovely lady was on hold. But he gave me a link with lots of pictures to dream away on. Even if you're low on cash, you should at least look at the car. An old fable tells me that you can't be forced to pay for what you smell or see, so, I look every day or two. Or every day twice?

White with red leather interior and a nice Petri steering wheel. And completely original, unrestored but drivable. Maybe it will still be there when I've won the lottery next week, even when I only have 5 numbers and the extra number.

Hundkoja

People always wonder why I go to Sweden to pick up Bubblas. They just can't grasp the profit of it. And then I have to explain it's mainly for fun. Sometimes they get it. Fun, yeah!
But just imagine I told them I was coming back in this micro-reincarnated batmobile, this 4-wheeled moped, this coffin on rubber feet, in short this abomination, now that would get them thinking I was plain mad.
But call me mad, if someone would offer me the silly money, I'd go get this mongrel puppy in the flip of a coin. Fun yeah!

bUgbUs

Just as word starts spreading of a European Bug-in in 2007, I have registered on the European version of the Samba. Find those hard to find parts for restoring your car or better yet, souping up your engine right around the corner, next to the European girl next door. And if you need advice on what to buy, go look around on the European twist on callook.com.
Europe rules !

Typ 3 Teileconvolut

Damned, I missed out on these nice NOS type three parts. All that is left is the NOS doorhandles. Personally I was most interested in the Varvräknare VDO 6v Fräck design, as for only 40 Euro it was a steal. All together this would have set me back a small 200 Euro plus shipping for those nice boxes in Blue. Sverige, you have to love it.
Maybe I should spend some more time on the WWW then?
